Australia’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has announced an Australia wide public holiday on Thursday, September 22, 2022.
This holiday is in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth the second.
The holiday is a once off as a sign off respect in relation to her passing and will not become an annual public holiday.
On this day the Australian National Flag will be flown at half-mast all day. In addition there will be a minute of silence observed at 11am Australian Eastern Standard Time.
In Victoria there is also a public holiday on Friday, September 23 2022 for the Friday before the AFL Grand Final, resulting in a 4 day weekend for that state.
